أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

إِنَّمَا «سَعَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَبِالْبَيْتِ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قُوَّتَهُ» اللَّفْظُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ «إِنَّمَا سَعَى لَمْ أَفْهَمْهُ كَمَا أَرَدْتُ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only went quickly between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah and at the House to show the polytheists his strength. This is the wording of ʿAbd Allāh. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: “I did not understand ‘only went quickly’ as I intended.”
