✧ The Excellence of the Late Night Prayer

أَخْبَرَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

أَعْتَمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَنَادَاهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ «مَا يَنْتَظِرُ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ غَيْرُكُمْ» وَلَمْ تَكُنْ تُصَلَّى يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ خَالَفَهُ عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ delayed the night prayer one night, so 'Umar called him, saying, "The women and children have slept." He came out to them and said: "No one on earth is waiting for this prayer except you." At that time it was not prayed except in Madinah. 'Abd al-A'la b. 'Abd al-A'la contradicted him.
