أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمِصْرِيُّ وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ أَخْبَرَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَلَمْ تَرَيْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوَا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ «لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ» فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يَتِمَّ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do you not see that your people, when they built the Kaʿbah, fell short of the foundations of Ibrahim?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, will you not restore it to the foundations of Ibrahim?” He said, “Were it not for your people’s recent departure from disbelief.” Then ʿAbd Allah b. ʿUmar said, “If ʿAʾishah heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I do not think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left off touching the two corners that are adjacent to the Hijr except that the House was not completed on the foundations of Ibrahim.”
