✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said, «This is Makkah, which God made sacred on the day He created the heavens and the earth. It was not permitted to anyone before me, nor will it be permitted to anyone after me. It was only permitted to me for an hour of the day, and from this hour of mine it is sacred by God's sanctity until the Day of Resurrection. Its fresh herbage is not to be cut, its trees are not to be cut down, its game is not to be startled, and its lost property is not to be picked up except by one who announces it.» Then al-ʿAbbās stood up—and he was a man of experience—and said, «Except for the sweet rush, for it is for our houses, our graves, and our smithies.» He said, «Except for the sweet rush.»
