The permissibility of canceling Hajj with Umrah for those who have not offered the sacrifice

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ بُنْدَارٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ غُنْدَرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ هُوَ الْقُرِّيُّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ «أَهَلَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْعُمْرَةِ وَأَهَلَّ أَصْحَابُهُ بِالْحَجِّ وَأَمَرَ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ أَنْ يَحِلَّ» وَكَانَ فِيمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ وَرَجُلٌ آخَرُ فَحَلَّا

✧ I heard Ibn ʿAbbas say: “The Messenger of God ﷺ entered ihram for ʿUmrah, and his companions entered ihram for Hajj, and he ordered those who did not have the sacrificial animal with them to come out of ihram.” Among those who did not have the sacrificial animal were Talhah b. ʿUbayd Allah and another man, so they came out of ihram.
