✧ In the ethics of the forbidden

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْمَكِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي ابْنَ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَعْلَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَقَدْ أَهَلَّ بِعُمْرَةٍ وَعَلَيْهِ مُقَطَّعَاتٌ وَهُوَ مُتَضَمِّخٌ بِخَلُوقٍ فَقَالَ أَهْلَلْتُ بِعُمْرَةٍ فَمَا أَصْنَعُ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا كُنْتَ صَانِعًا فِي حَجَّتِكَ؟» قَالَ كُنْتُ أُلْقِيَ هَذَا وَأَغْسِلُهُ فَقَالَ «مَا كُنْتَ صَانِعًا فِي حَجِّكَ فَاصْنَعْهُ فِي عُمْرَتِكَ»

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ while he had entered ihram for ʿumrah, wearing a patched garment and smeared with khalūq perfume. He said: “I have entered ihram for ʿumrah, so what should I do?” The Prophet ﷺ said: “What would you have done in your hajj?” He said: “I would have cast off this and washed it.” He said: “What you would have done in your hajj, do it in your ʿumrah.”
