✧ The Obligation of Hajj

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْجَلِيلِ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ الدُّؤَلِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ كَتَبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْحَجَّ» فَقَالَ الْأَقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ التَّمِيمِيُّ كُلُّ عَامٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ إِذًا لَا تَسْمَعُونَ وَلَا تُطِيعُونَ وَلَكِنَّهُ حَجَّةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said: “Allah has prescribed Hajj upon you.” Al-Aqraʿ b. Ḥābis al-Tamīmī said: “Every year, O Messenger of Allah?” He remained silent, then said: “Had I said yes, it would have become obligatory, and then you would not hear nor obey. But it is one Hajj.”
