أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ قَالَ

مَرَرْتُ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ مُتَغَيِّظٌ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا خَلِيفَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ هَذَا الَّذِي تَغَيَّظُ عَلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ وَلِمَ تَسْأَلُ؟ قُلْتُ أَضْرِبُ عُنُقَهُ قَالَ فَوَاللهِ يَعْنِي لَأَذْهَبَ عِظَمُ كَلِمَتِي غَضَبَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا كَانَتْ تِلْكَ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ

Translation

✧ I passed by Abu Bakr while he was angry with a man from his companions. I said: O caliph of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who is this that you are angry with? He said: Why do you ask? I said: To strike his neck. He said: By Allah—the weight of my word removed his anger. Then he said: That was not for anyone after Muhammad ﷺ.
