al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 3337

✧ Seclusion without fasting, and mentioning the differences in the words of the narrators of the news of Umar's dispute with Ubaidullah b. Umar in that dispute.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ عُمَرَ كَانَ قَدْ جَعَلَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمًا يَعْتَكِفُهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَسَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ «فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَعْتَكِفَ»

✧ Umar had obligated upon himself a day of i'tikaf during the Jahiliyyah. He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and he commanded him to observe i'tikaf.
