أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الدَّعْوَةِ فَلْيُجِبْ فَإِنْ كَانَ صَائِمًا فَلْيُصَلِّ وَإِنْ كَانَ مُفْطِرًا فَلْيَطْعَمْ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يُصَلِّي مَعْنَاهُ يَدْعُو فِي الصَّائِمِ يُجْهَدُ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When one of you is invited to a meal, let him accept. If he is fasting, let him pray; if he is not fasting, let him eat." Abu Abd al-Rahman said: "He prays" means he supplicates; regarding the fasting person, it is difficult.
