أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَأَبِي مُوسَى فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى أَوَلَمْ

تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ عَمَّارٍ لِعُمَرَ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَأَجْنَبْتُ فَلَمْ أَجِدِ الْمَاءَ فَتَمَرَّغْتُ بِالصَّعِيدِ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَكْفِيكَ أَنْ تَقُولَ هَكَذَا» ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ ضَرْبَةً وَاحِدَةً فَمَسَحَ كَفَّهُ ثُمَّ نَفَضَهَا ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِشِمَالِهِ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ وَبِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ عَلَى كَفَّيْهِ وَوَجْهِهِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ أَوَلَمْ تَرَ عُمَرَ لَمْ يَقْنَعْ بِقَوْلِ عَمَّارٍ

Translation

✧ I heard 'Ammar say to 'Umar: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on an errand, and I became junub and could not find water, so I rolled in the dust, then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he said: “It would have sufficed you to do this,” and he struck his hand on the ground once, then wiped his palm, then shook it off, then struck with his left hand on his right and with his right hand on his left, on his palms and face. 'Abdullah said: Do you not see that 'Umar was not satisfied with 'Ammar's statement?
