al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2854

✧ The beginning of fasting on the day of Ashura, and the mention of the variation of the narrators' words in it.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ

«أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصِيَامِ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ رَمَضَانُ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to fast Ashura before Ramadan was revealed. When Ramadan was revealed, he neither commanded us nor forbade us.
