أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حِبَّانُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ قَالَ

أَرْسَلَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَنَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَيُّ الْأَيَّامِ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَكْثَرَهَا صِيَامًا؟ قَالَتْ يَوْمُ السَّبْتِ وَالْأَحَدِ فَأَنْكَرُوا عَلَيَّ وَظَنُّوا أَنِّي لَمْ أَحْفَظْ فَرَدُّونِي فَقَالَتْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ فَقَامُوا بِأَجْمَعِهِمْ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكِ فِي كَذَا وَكَذَا فَزَعَمَ هَذَا أَنَّكِ قُلْتِ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَتْ صَدَقَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ وَالْأَحَدِ أَكْثَرَ مَا يَصُومُ مِنَ الْأَيَّامِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّهُمَا يَوْمَا عِيدٍ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أُخَالِفَهُمْ

✧ Ibn Abbas sent me with some people from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ to Umm Salamah: 'Which days did the Prophet ﷺ fast the most?' She said: 'Saturday and Sunday.' They disapproved of me and thought that I had not memorized well, so they sent me back, and she said the same thing. I informed them, and they all stood up and said: 'We sent you about such and such, and this one claimed that you said such and such.' She said: 'He is truthful. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast on Saturday and Sunday more than any other days, and he would say: "They are two festival days for the polytheists, so I love to differ from them."'
