✧ The Jews, when a woman among them menstruated, would not eat with them, drink with them, or share the house with them. They asked the Prophet ﷺ about that, so Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: {And they ask you about menstruation. Say, It is harmful} — the verse. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to eat with them, drink with them, share the house with them, and do everything with them except intercourse. The Jews said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ leaves nothing of our affair but that he opposes us in it.' Usayd b. al-Hudayr and 'Abbad b. Bishr stood up and informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying, 'Should we have intercourse with them during menstruation?' The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed severely, so much that we thought he was angry with them. They stood up, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ received a gift of milk, so he sent after them and brought them back, and gave them both to drink. Thus they knew that he was not angry with them.
