أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَذَلِكَ عِنْدَ السَّحَرِ «يَا أَنَسُ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ أَطْعِمْنِي شَيْئًا» فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِتَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ وَذَلِكَ بَعْدَمَا أَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ قَالَ «يَا أَنَسُ انْظُرْ رَجُلًا يَأْكُلُ مَعِي» فَدَعَوْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ فَجَاءَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي شَرِبْتُ شَرْبَةَ سَوِيقٍ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ» فَتَسَحَّرَ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and that was at the time of pre-dawn: "O Anas, I intend to fast, so give me something to eat." I brought him dates and a vessel containing water, and that was after Bilal had called the adhan. He said: "O Anas, find a man to eat with me." I called Zayd b. Thabit, and he came and said: I have drunk a drink of sawiq and I intend to fast. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "And I intend to fast." So he had the pre-dawn meal with him, then he stood and prayed two rak'ahs, then he went out to the prayer.
