أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ حَدَّثَهُ وأَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَمْ أَزَلْ حَرِيصًا أَنْ أَسْأَلَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ

عَنِ الْمَرْأَتَيْنِ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ اللَّتَيْنِ قَالَ اللهُ لَهُمَا {إِنْ تَتُوبَا إِلَى اللهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَا} [التحريم 4] وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ وَقَالَ فِيهِ فَاعْتَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نِسَاءَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ الْحَدِيثِ حِينَ أَفْشَتْهُ حَفْصَةُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ وَكَانَ قَالَ «مَا أَنَا بِدَاخِلٍ عَلَيْهِنَّ شَهْرًا» مِنْ شِدَّةِ مَوْجِدَتِهِ عَلَيْهِنَّ حِينَ حَدَّثَهُ اللهُ حَدِيثَهُنَّ فَلَمَّا مَضَتْ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ لَيْلَةً دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَبَدَأَ بِهَا فَقَالَتْ لَهُ عَائِشَةُ إِنَّكَ قَدْ كُنْتَ آلَيْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَّا تَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهِنَّ شَهْرًا وَإِنَّا أَصْبَحْنَا مِنْ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً نَعُدُّهَا عَدَدًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ لَيْلَةً»

✧ From the two women among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ about whom Allah said: {If you two repent to Allah, your hearts have indeed inclined} [al-Tahrim 4] — and he narrated the hadith, saying: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew from his wives because of that hadith when Hafsah divulged it to Aishah for twenty-nine nights." Aishah said: "He had said, 'I will not enter upon them for a month,' out of intense anger at them when Allah informed him of their matter. When twenty-nine nights had passed, he entered upon Aishah, starting with her. Aishah said to him, 'O Messenger of Allah, you swore not to enter upon them for a month, and we have begun the day of twenty-nine nights, counting them carefully.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The month is twenty-nine nights.'"
