أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ عَرْفَجَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ فِي بَيْتٍ فِيهِ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ فَرْقَدٍ فَأَرَدْتُ

أَنْ أُحَدِّثَ بِحَدِيثٍ وَكَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كَأَنَّهُ أَوْلَى بِالْحَدِيثِ فَحَدَّثَ الرَّجُلُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ فِي رَمَضَانَ تُفْتَحُ لَهُ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ وَتُغَلَّقُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ النَّارِ وَيُصَفَّدُ فِيهِ كُلُّ شَيْطَانٍ مَرِيدٍ وَيُنَادِي مُنَادٍ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ يَا طَالِبَ الْخَيْرِ هَلُمَّ وَيَا طَالِبَ الشَّرِّ أَمْسِكْ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَحَدِيثُ شُعْبَةَ هَذَا أَوْلَى بِالصَّوَابِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ

Translation

✧ I wanted to narrate a hadith, and a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ seemed more entitled to the hadith, so the man narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: “In Ramadan the gates of heaven are opened for him, the gates of the Fire are closed in it, every rebellious devil is fettered in it, and every night a caller calls out: ‘O seeker of good, come forward! O seeker of evil, hold back!’” Abu Abd al-Rahman said: “This hadith of Shu'bah is more likely to be correct, and Allah knows best.”
