أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مُرَّةَ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّارَ فَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا ذَكَرَ شُعْبَةُ أَنَّهُ فَعَلَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the Fire, turned his face away, and sought refuge from it. Shu'bah mentioned that he did so three times. Then he said: "Guard yourselves against the Fire, even with half a date. If you cannot find even that, then with a good word."
