al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2297

✧ The obligation of giving the Zakat al-Fitr before the descent of Zakat.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِى ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ

«كُنَّا نَصُومُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَنُؤَدِّي صَدَقَةَ الْفِطْرِ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ وَنَزَلَتِ الزَّكَاةُ لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ بِهِ وَلَمْ نُنْهَ عَنْهُ وَكُنَّا نَفْعَلُهُ»

✧ “We used to fast 'Ashura' and pay the charity of breaking the fast. Then when Ramadan was revealed and the zakat was revealed, we were neither commanded to do it nor forbidden from it, and we used to do it.”
