أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ عُمَرَ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ أَخَذَ يُحَدِّثُنَا عَنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَيُرِينَا مَصَارِعَهُمْ بِالْأَمْسِ قَبْلَ أَيْ هَذَا مَصْرَعُ فُلَانٍ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ غَدًا قَالَ عُمَرُ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَهُ بِالْحَقِّ مَا أَخْطَأَوا تِيكَ فَجُعِلُوا فِي بِئْرٍ فَأَتَاهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَنَادَى يَا فُلَانَ بْنَ فُلَانٍ يَا فُلَانَ ابْنَ فُلَانٍ «هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا فَإِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا» قَالَ عُمَرُ أَتُكَلِّمُ أَجْسَادًا لَا أَرْوَاحَ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ «مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was showing us their places of death yesterday, before—i.e., 'This is the place of death of so-and-so, if Allah wills, tomorrow.' 'Umar said, 'By the One who sent him with the truth, they did not miss those places.' They were thrown into a well. The Prophet ﷺ came to them and called, 'O so-and-so son of so-and-so, O so-and-so son of so-and-so, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.' 'Umar said, 'Do you speak to bodies that have no souls?' He said, 'You are not more able to hear what I say than they are.'
