أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ كَانَتْ تُسْتَحَاضُ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ فَسَأَلْتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَ «لَيْسَتْ بِالْحَيْضَةِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ عِرْقٌ فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَتْرُكَ الصَّلَاةَ قَدْرَ أَقْرَائِهَا وَحَيْضَتِهَا وَتَغْتَسِلَ وَتُصَلِّي فَكَانَتْ تَغْتَسِلُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ»

✧ Umm Habibah bt. Jahsh suffered from prolonged uterine bleeding (istihadah) for seven years. She asked the Prophet ﷺ about it, and he said: “It is not menstruation; it is only a vein.” He commanded her to refrain from prayer for the length of her menstrual cycles and her usual period, then perform ghusl and pray. So she used to perform ghusl for every prayer.
