أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَيُّوبُ بْنُ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سِيرِينَ يَقُولُ كَانَتْ أُمُّ عَطِيَّةَ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَدِمَتْ تُفَادَى ابْنًا لَهَا فَلَمْ تُدْرِكْهُ حَدَّثَتْنَا قَالَتْ

دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نُغَسِّلُ ابْنَتَهُ فَقَالَ «اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي» فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا أَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حِقْوَهُ فَقَالَ «أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ» وَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ بَنَاتِهِ قُلْتُ مَا قَوْلُهُ أَشْعِرْنَهَا أَتُؤَزَّرُ؟ قَالَ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ يَقُولَ الْفُفْنَهَا فِيهِ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ entered while we were washing his daughter and said: "Wash her three, five, or more times if you see fit, with water and sidr, and put camphor or some camphor in the last wash. When you finish, inform me." When we finished, he threw his waist-wrapper to us and said: "Wrap her in it." He did not add anything to that. He said: I do not know which of his daughters it was. I said: What does his saying "Wrap her in it" mean? Is she to be wrapped in a waist-wrapper? He said: No, unless he meant "wrap her in it."
