أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْهُنَائِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَازِلًا بَيْنَ ضَجْنَانَ وَعُسْفَانَ يُحَاذِي الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِنَّ لِهَؤُلَاءِ صَلَاةً هِيَ أَهَمُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنِ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَبْكَارِهِمِ أَجْمِعُوا أَمْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ مِيلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ مَيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً فَجَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُقَسِّمَ أَصْحَابَهُ نِصْفَيْنِ يُصَلِّي بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْهُمْ وَطَائِفَةٌ مُقْبِلُونَ عَلَى عَدُوِّهِمْ قَدْ أَخَذُوا حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ فَيُصَلِّي بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ يَتَأَخَّرُ هَؤُلَاءِ وَيَتَقَدَّمُ أُولَئِكَ فَيُصَلِّي بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً تَكُونُ لَهُمْ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَةٌ رَكْعَةٌ وَلِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَتَانِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was encamped between Dajnan and Usfan, facing the polytheists. The polytheists said: These people have a prayer that is dearer to them than their children and their virgins. So make your plans, then make a single assault upon them. Then Jibril came and ordered him to divide his companions into two groups: he would pray with one group while the other group faced their enemy, having taken their precautions and their weapons, and he would pray one rakʿah with them. Then these would move back and those would come forward, and he would pray one rakʿah with them. Thus they would have one rakʿah each with the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ would have two rakʿahs.
