al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 1327

✧ Prophet's ﷺ night prayer and the differences in the words of those who narrate it.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ

قَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى تَوَرَّمَتْ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ قَالَ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا؟»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Qutaybah b. Saʿīd and Muḥammad b. Manṣūr
  2. Sufyān
  3. Ziyād b. ʿIlāqah
  4. al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah

Allah's Apostle ﷺ kept standing in prayer (for such long hours) that his feet were swollen. They (his Companions) said: Verily, Allah has pardoned for thee the earlier and the later of thine sins. Thereupon he said: Should I not prove myself to be a grateful servant (of Allah)? (Using translation from Muslim 2819b)
