أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ أَبُو قُدَامَةَ السَّرَخْسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي هِنْدَ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ
صُمْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَلَمْ يَقُمْ بِنَا حَتَّى بَقِيَ سَبْعٌ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ فَقَامَ بِنَا حَتَّى ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَقُمْ بِنَا فِي السَّادِسَةِ فَقَامَ بِنَا فِي الْخَامِسَةِ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوْ نَفَّلْتَنَا بَقِيَّةَ لَيْلَتِنَا هَذِهِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ مَنْ قَامَ مَعَ الْإِمَامِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ كُتِبَ لَهُ قِيَامُ لَيْلَةٍ» ثُمَّ لَمْ يَقُمْ بِنَا حَتَّى بَقِيَ ثَلَاثٌ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ فَقَامَ بِنَا فِي الثَّالِثَةِ وَجَمْعَ أَهْلَهِ وَنِسَاءَهُ حَتَّى تَخَوَّفْنَا أَنْ يَفُوتَنَا الْفَلَاحُ قُلْتُ وَمَا الْفَلَاحُ؟ قَالَ السَّحُورُ

✧ We fasted with the Prophet ﷺ in Ramadan, and he did not lead us in night prayer until seven days of the month remained. Then he led us until a third of the night had passed. Then he did not lead us on the sixth, but he led us on the fifth until half the night had passed. I said: O Messenger of Allah, if only you would let us pray the rest of this night as voluntary. He said: "Whoever stands with the imam until he finishes, it is written for him as standing a whole night." Then he did not lead us until three days of the month remained. He led us on the third, and he gathered his family and wives, until we feared we would miss the falah. I asked: What is the falah? He said: The pre-dawn meal.
