حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكُ بْن مِغْوَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَسْجِدَ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يُصَلِّي يَدْعُو يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ قَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ سَأَلَهُ بِاسْمِهِ الْأَعْظَمِ الَّذِي إِذَا سُئِلَ بِهِ أَعْطَى وَإِذَا دُعِيَ بِهِ أَجَابَ» قَالَ أَيْ زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ زُهَيْرَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مِغْوَلٍ قَالَ أَيْ زُهَيْرٌ وَسَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ يُحَدِّثُ بِهِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مِغْوَلٍ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Khālid
  2. Zayd b. al-Ḥubāb
  3. Mālik b. Mighwal
  4. ʿAbdullāh b. Buraydah from his father

✧ He entered the mosque with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found a man praying, supplicating, saying: "O Allah, I ask You by the fact that I testify that there is no god but You, the One, the Eternal Refuge, who neither begot nor was born, nor is there to Him any equivalent." He said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, he has asked Him by His Greatest Name, which when He is asked by it, He gives, and when He is called upon by it, He answers." He said, meaning Zayd b. al-Hubab: I narrated it to Zuhayr b. Mu'awiyah, and he said: Sufyan narrated this hadith to us from Malik b. Mighwal. He said, meaning Zuhayr: And I heard Abu Ishaq narrating it from Malik b. Mighwal.
