أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ قَالَ
كَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ وَابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ثُمَّ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا عَمَّارٌ وَسَعْدٌ وَبِلَالٌ ثُمَّ قَدِمَ عُثْمَانُ فِي عِشْرِينَ ثُمَّ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَمَا رَأَيْنَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ فَرِحُوا بِشَيْءٍ فَرَحَهُمْ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَمَا قَدِمَ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ {سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} [الأعلى 1] وَسُورَةٌ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الصَّوَابُ عُمَرُ لَيْسَ هُوَ عُثْمَانَ

✧ The first of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to come to us was Muṣʿab b. ʿUmayr and Ibn Umm Maktūm. Then ʿAmmār, Saʿd, and Bilāl came to us. Then ʿUthmān came with twenty. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, and we did not see the people of Madinah rejoice at anything as much as they rejoiced at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He had not yet arrived when {Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High} [al-Aʿlā: 1] and a surah from the Mufaṣṣal were revealed. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: The correct name is ʿUmar, not ʿUthmān.
