أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَتْ
يَا أَبَا عَائِشَةَ ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ تَكَلَّمَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ فَقَدْ أَعْظَمَ عَلَى اللهِ الْفِرْيَةَ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَأَى رَبَّهُ فَقَدْ أَعْظَمَ عَلَى اللهِ الْفِرْيَةَ قَالَ وَكُنْتُ مُتَّكِئًا فَجَلَسْتُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ {وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ} [التكوير 23] {وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى} [النجم 13]؟ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي أَوَّلُ مَنْ سَأَلَ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ لَمْ أَرَهُ فِي صُورَتِهِ الَّتِي خُلِقَ عَلَيْهَا إِلَّا هَاتَيْنِ الْمَرَّتَيْنِ رَأَيْتُهُ مُنْهَبِطًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ سَادًّا عِظَمُ خَلْقِهِ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ» ثُمَّ قَالَتْ أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ إِلَى قَوْلِ اللهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى {لَا تُدْرِكْهُ الْأَبْصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الْأَبْصَارَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ} [الأنعام 103]؟ أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ إِلَى قَوْلِ اللهِ {وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَهُ اللهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا أَوْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ حِجَابٍ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ رَسُولًا فَيُوحِيَ بِإِذْنِهِ مَا يَشَاءُ} [الشورى 51]؟ وَمَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا كَتَمَ شَيْئًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ فَقَدْ أَعْظَمَ عَلَى اللهِ الْفِرْيَةَ وَاللهُ يَقُولُ {يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ} [المائدة 67] وَمَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَكُونُ فِي غَدٍ فَقَدْ أَعْظَمَ عَلَى اللهِ الْفِرْيَةَ وَاللهُ يَقُولُ {قُلْ لَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الْغَيْبَ إِلَّا اللهُ}

✧ O Abū ʿĀʾishah, there are three things; whoever speaks about one of them has fabricated a great lie against Allah. Whoever claims that Muhammad saw his Lord has fabricated a great lie against Allah. He said: I was reclining, so I sat up and said: O Mother of the Believers, did Allah not say: {And he certainly saw him in the clear horizon} [al-Takwīr: 23] and {And he certainly saw him in another descent} [al-Najm: 13]? She said: I was the first one to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this verse, and he said: "That was only Jibrīl ﷺ. I never saw him in the form in which he was created except these two times. I saw him descending from the heaven, the greatness of his creation filling what is between heaven and earth." Then she said: Have you not heard the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: {Vision cannot grasp Him, but He grasps all vision, and He is the Subtle, the All-Aware} [al-Anʿām: 103]? Have you not heard the saying of Allah: {It is not for any human that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil or by sending a messenger to reveal by His permission what He wills} [al-Shūrā: 51]? And whoever claims that Muhammad concealed anything of the Book of Allah has fabricated a great lie against Allah, while Allah says: {O Messenger, convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord} [al-Māʾidah: 67]. And whoever claims that he knows what will happen tomorrow has fabricated a great lie against Allah, while Allah says: {Say: None in the heavens and the earth knows the unseen except Allah}.
