أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ هُوَ ابْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَكُمْ فَوْقَ صَوْتِ النَّبِيِّ وَلَا تَجْهَرُوا لَهُ بِالْقَوْلِ كَجَهْرِ بَعْضِكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ أَنْ تَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالُكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ} [الحجرات 2] قَالَ ثَابِتُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ أَنَا وَاللهِ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَرْفَعُ صَوْتِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ يَكُونَ قَدْ غَضِبَ اللهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ فَحَزِنَ وَاصْفَرَّ فَفَقَدَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ وَإِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ لِأَنِّي كُنْتُ أَرْفَعُ صَوْتِي عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «بَلْ هُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ» قَالَ فَكُنَّا نَرَاهُ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ

Translation

✧ When the verse was revealed: {O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, and do not be loud in speech to him as you are loud to one another, lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not} [al-Ḥujurāt 2], Thābit b. Qays said: "I, by God, am the one who used to raise my voice in the presence of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and I fear that God has become angry with me." He said: So he grieved and turned pale, and the Prophet ﷺ missed him and asked about him. He said: "O Prophet of God, he says: 'I fear that I may be one of the people of the Fire because I used to raise my voice in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ.'" The Prophet of God ﷺ said: "Rather, he is one of the people of Paradise." He said: So we used to see him walking among us as a man from the people of Paradise.
