أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي زَبْرٍ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ زَبْرٍ عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ {إِذْ جَعَلَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْحَمِيَّةَ حَمِيَّةَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ} [الفتح 26] وَلَوْ حُمِيتُمْ كَمَا حَمَوْا لَفَسَدَ الْمَسْجِدُ الْحَرَامُ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرَ فَأَغْلَظَ لَهُ قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَدْخُلُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَيُعَلُّمُنِي مِمَّا عَلَّمَهُ اللهُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بَلْ أَنْتَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَكَ عِلْمٌ وَقُرْآنٌ فَاقْرَأْ وَعَلِّمْ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

✧ He used to recite: {When those who disbelieved had put in their hearts the fervor of ignorance, the fervor of ignorance} [al-Fath: 26], “and if you had become fervent as they did, the Sacred Mosque would have been corrupted.” This reached ʿUmar, and he rebuked him harshly. He said: “You know that I used to come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he would teach me from what Allah had taught him.” ʿUmar said: “Rather, you are a man who has knowledge and Qur’an, so recite and teach from what Allah and His Messenger have taught you.”
