أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَرَبِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي نَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَدُرْتُ خَلْفَهُ هَكَذَا فَعَرَفَ الَّذِي أُرِيدُ فَأَلْقَى الرِّدَاءَ عَنْ ظَهْرِهِ فَرَأَيْتُ مَوْضِعَ الْخَاتَمِ عَلَى نُغْضِ كَتِفِهِ مِثْلَ الْجُمْعِ حَوْلَهُ خِيلَانٌ كَأَنَّهَا الثَّآلِيلُ فَجِئْتُ حَتَّى اسْتَقْبَلْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «وَلَكَ» قَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ أَسْتَغْفَرَ لَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَكُمْ ثُمَّ تَلَا {وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ} [محمد 19]

✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was sitting among some of his companions. I went around behind him like this, and he knew what I wanted, so he threw the cloak off his back. I saw the place of the seal on the cartilage of his shoulder, like a clenched fist, around it moles like warts. I came until I faced him and said: May Allah forgive you, O Messenger of Allah. He said: And you. Some of the people said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought forgiveness for you? He said: Yes, and for you. Then he recited: {And ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women} [Muḥammad 19].
