أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الطَّائِفِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قُلْنَا مَا هَذَانِ الرَّجُلَانِ اللَّذَانِ قَالَ

الْمُشْرِكُونَ فِيهِمَا مَا قَالُوا حِينَ نَفِسَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا آتَاهُ اللهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ أَمَّا عَنْ أَهْلِ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ لِلْطَائِفِ فَجَدُّ الْمُخْتَارِ مَسْعُودُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَأَمَّا عَنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَجَبَّارٌ مِنْ جَبَابِرَةِ قُرَيْشٍ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّهِ لَنَا

Translation

✧ The polytheists said, when they grudged the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what Allah had given him over the people: “As for the people of this town—meaning al-Ṭāʾif—it is the grandfather of al-Mukhtār, Masʿūd b. ʿAmr. As for the people of Makkah, it is a tyrant from the tyrants of Quraysh, and he did not name him for us.”
