✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When death approaches a person, the angels attend him. If he was a righteous man, they say, ‘Come out, O good soul that was in a good body; come out praiseworthy, and receive the glad tidings of rest and fragrant herbs and a Lord who is not angry.’ They keep saying that until it comes out. Then it is taken up to heaven, and the gates are opened for it. It is said, ‘Who is this?’ They say, ‘So-and-so.’ It is said, ‘Welcome to the good soul that was in a good body. Enter praiseworthy, and receive the glad tidings of rest and fragrant herbs and a Lord who is not angry.’ They keep saying that until it reaches the seventh heaven. And if he was an evil man, it is said, ‘Come out, O foul soul that was in a foul body; come out blameworthy, and receive the glad tidings of boiling water and putrid fluid and other kinds of similar torments.’ They keep saying that until it comes out. Then it is taken up to heaven, and the gates are opened for it. It is said, ‘Who is this?’ They say, ‘So-and-so.’ It is said, ‘No welcome to the foul soul that was in a foul body. Go back blameworthy, for the gates of heaven will not be opened for you.’”
