أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ أَنَّ أَنَسًا قَالَ

قَالَ عُمَرُ قُلْتُ «يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكَ الْبَرُّ وَالْفَاجِرُ فَلَوْ حَجَبْتَ أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ آيَةَ الْحِجَابِ»

Translation

✧ 'Umar said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, both the righteous and the wicked enter upon you. If only you would veil the Mothers of the Believers." So Allah, exalted is He, sent down the verse of hijab.
