أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ دَاوُدَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ لَأَطُوفَنَّ اللَّيْلَةَ عَلَى مِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ فَتَأْتِي كُلُّ امْرَأَةٍ بِرَجُلٍ يَضْرِبُ بِالسَّيْفِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ إِنَّ شَاءَ اللهُ فَطَافَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَجَاءَتْ وَاحِدَةٌ بِنِصْفِ وَلَدٍ وَلَوْ قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ إِنَّ شَاءَ اللهُ لَكَانَ مَا قَالَ

Translation

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: “Sulaymān b. Dāwūd (peace be upon them both) said, ‘I will certainly go around tonight to one hundred women, and each woman will bring forth a man who will strike with the sword,’ and he did not say ‘if God wills.’ So he went around to them, and only one woman brought forth half a child. Had Sulaymān said ‘if God wills,’ what he said would have come to pass.”
