أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ رَبِيعٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ أُصِيبَ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ رَجُلًا وَمِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ سِتَّةٌ مِنْهُمْ حَمْزَةُ فَمَثَّلُوا بِهِ فَقَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ لَئِنْ أَصَبْنَا مِنْهُمْ يَوْمًا مِثْلَ هَذَا لَنُرْبِيَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَلَمَّا أَنْ كَانَ يَوْمُ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُمْ بِهِ وَلَئِنْ صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِلصَّابِرِينَ} [النحل 126] فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لَا قُرَيْشَ بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كُفُّوا عَنِ الْقَوْمِ غَيْرَ أَرْبَعَةٍ»

✧ When the day of Uḥud came, sixty-four men of the Anṣār were struck, and six of the Muhājirūn, among them Ḥamzah, and they mutilated him. The Anṣār said: If we ever strike them on a day like this, we will certainly exceed them. When the day of the conquest of Makkah came, Allah, exalted is He, revealed: {And if you punish, then punish with the like of that with which you were afflicted; but if you are patient, it is better for the patient} [al-Naḥl: 126]. Then a man said: No Quraysh after today. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Hold back from the people except four.”
