Sūrat Ibrāhīm

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً لَا يَسْقُطُ وَرَقُهَا وَإِنَّهَا مِثْلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ فَحَدِّثُونِي مَا هِيَ؟» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَوَقَعَ النَّاسُ فِي شَجَرِ الْبَوَادِي وَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ فَقَالُوا حَدِّثْنَا مَا هِيَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Truly, among the trees is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and it is like the believer. Tell me what it is.” ʿAbd Allāh said: The people began thinking of the trees of the desert, and it occurred to me that it was the date-palm, but I felt shy. They said: ‘Tell us what it is, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘It is the date-palm.’”
