أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنَا حَسَّانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا خَلَّادُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ
قُلْتُ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ لَا نَثْبُتُ عِنْدَ قِتَالِ عَدُوِّنَا وَلَا نَدْرِي مَنِ الْفِئَةُ؟ قَالَ لِي الْفِئَةُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ اللهَ يَقُولُ فِي كِتَابِهِ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا لَقِيتُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا زَحْفًا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ الْأَدْبَارَ} [الأنفال 15] قَالَ إِنَّمَا أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ لِأَهْلِ بَدْرٍ لَا لِقَبْلِهَا وَلَا لِبَعْدِهَا
Translation

✧ I said: We are a people who do not stand firm when fighting our enemy, and we do not know who the party is. He said to me: The party is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: Allah says in His Book {O you who believe, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing, do not turn your backs to them} [al-Anfal: 15]. He said: This was only sent down for the people of Badr, not before it and not after it.
