أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَاهِدُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزَّعْرَاءِ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَصَعَّدَ فِيَّ النَّظَرَ وَصَوَّبَهُ وَقَالَ «أَرَبُّ إِبِلٍ أَوْ غَنَمٍ» قُلْتُ مِنْ كُلٍّ قَدْ آتَانِي اللهُ فَأَكْثَرَ وَأَطَابَ فَقَالَ أَلَسْتَ تَنْتِجُهَا وَافِيَةً أَعْيَانُهَا وَآذَانُهَا فَتَجْدَعُ هَذِهِ وَتَقُولُ بَحِيرَةٌ وَتَفْقَأُ هَذِهِ ؟ سَاعِدُ اللهِ أَشَدُّ وَمُوسَاهُ أَحَدُّ

Translation

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he looked at me up and down and said: “Do you own camels or sheep?” I said: Of each kind Allah has given me, and He has increased and made good. He said: Do you not give birth to them with their eyes and ears intact, then you slit the ear of this one and say “bahīrah,” and you blind this one? Allah’s forearm is stronger and His blade is sharper.
