أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُحَيْصِنٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ} [النساء 123] شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَأَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلُوهُ فَقَالَ «قَارِبُوا وَسَدِّدُوا فَفِي كُلِّ مَا يُصَابُ بِهِ الْعَبْدُ كَفَّارَةٌ حَتَّى النَّكْبَةُ يُنْكَبُهَا وَالشَّوْكَةُ يُشَاكُهَا»

✧ Abū Hurayrah [said]: When the verse {It is not by your desires, nor by the desires of the People of the Book: whoever does evil will be recompensed for it} [al-Nisāʾ 123] was revealed, that was hard on the Muslims. So they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him. He said, “Aim for what is right and be steadfast, for in everything that afflicts the servant there is expiation, even the stumble he stumbles, and the thorn that pricks him.”
