أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابَهُ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ} [البقرة 144] مَرَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ فَنَادَاهُمْ وَهُمْ رُكُوعٌ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ أَلَا إِنَّ الْقِبْلَةَ قَدْ حُوِّلَتْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ فَمَالُوا رُكُوعًا

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ and his companions used to pray toward Bayt al-Maqdis. When this verse was revealed: {So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram} [al-Baqarah: 144], a man from Banu Salimah passed by and called out to them while they were bowing in the Fajr prayer: 'Indeed the qiblah has been changed to the Ka'bah.' So they turned while still bowing.
