أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ جَعْدَةَ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي جُشَمِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ جِيءَ إِلَيْهِ بِرَجُلٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّ هَذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقْتُلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَمْ تُرَعْ لَمْ تُرَعْ لَوْ أَرَدْتَ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يُسَلِّطْكَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ»

✧ I heard Ja'dah, a man from Banu Jusham ibn Mu'awiyah, say: A man was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they said, "This man intended to kill the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The Prophet ﷺ began saying, "Do not be alarmed, do not be alarmed. If you had intended that, Allah would not have given you power over him."
