أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَا يَتَمَنَّ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمَوْتَ مِنْ ضُرِّ نَزَلَ بِهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَلْيَقُلِ اللهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي وَتَوَفَّنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A believer should not wish for death because of harm that has befallen him. If he must do so, then let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die when death is better for me."
