أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ
أَقْبَلْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَتَيْنَا عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ فَقَالُوا هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ دَوَاءٌ أَوْ رُقْيَةٌ؟ فَإِنَّ عِنْدَنَا مَعْتُوهًا فِي الْقُيُودِ فَجَاءُوا بِمَعْتُوهٍ فِي الْقُيُودِ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَاتِحَةَ الْكِتَابِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ غُدْوَةً وَعَشِيَّةً أَجْمَعُ بُزَاقِي وَأَتْفِلُ فَكَأَنَّمَا أُنْشِطَ مِنْ عِقَالٍ فَأَعْطَوْنِي جُعْلًا فَقُلْتُ لَا فَقَالُوا سَلِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ «كُلْ فَلَعَمْرِي مَنْ أَكَلَ بِرُقْيَةِ بَاطِلٍ فَقَدْ أَكَلْتَ بِرُقْيَةِ حَقٍّ»

✧ We returned from the Prophet ﷺ and came to a tribe of the Arabs. They said: “Do you have any medicine or ruqyah? For we have a mentally deranged man in chains.” They brought a mentally deranged man in chains. I recited the Opening of the Book over him for three days, morning and evening, gathering my saliva and blowing. It was as if he was released from a bond. They gave me a reward, but I said: “No.” They said: “Ask the Prophet ﷺ.” I asked him, and he said: “Eat, for by my life, whoever eats by a false ruqyah, you have eaten by a true ruqyah.”
