✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said on the night of the jinn, when he was with Gabriel and I was with him: The Prophet ﷺ began to recite, and an ifrit drew near and kept getting closer. Gabriel said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Shall I teach you words that, if you say them, the ifrit will fall on his face and his flame will be extinguished? Say: I seek refuge in the noble Face of God and His perfect words, which neither righteous nor wicked can overstep, from the evil of what descends from the heaven and what ascends in it, and from the evil of what He has scattered in the earth and what comes out of it, and from the trials of night and day, and from the evil of the visitants of night and day, except a visitant who comes with good, O Merciful.” So the ifrit fell on his face and his flame was extinguished. [350] Malik b. Anas differed from him. 10727 Al-Harith b. Miskin, reading to him while I listened, from Ibn al-Qasim, who said: Malik informed us, from Yahya b. Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ was taken on the night journey and saw an ifrit from the jinn pursuing him with a flame of fire. Whenever the Prophet ﷺ turned, he saw him. Gabriel ﷺ said to him... and he narrated the hadith.
