أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ الصَّوَّافِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَعَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ قَالَ
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَتَيْنِ وَيُسْمِعُنَا الْآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا وَكَانَ يُطِيلُ الرَّكْعَةَ الْأُولَى مِنَ الظُّهْرِ وَيُقَصِّرُ الثَّانِيَةَ وَكَذَلِكَ فِي الصُّبْحِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in Dhuhr and Asr prayers in the first two rak'ahs the Opening of the Book and two surahs, and he would let us hear a verse sometimes, and he would lengthen the first rak'ah of Dhuhr and shorten the second, and likewise in Subh.
