أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ نَذِيرٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ ذَرِبُ اللِّسَانِ وَإِنَّ عَامَّةَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَهْلِي؟ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ أَنْتَ مِنَ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ؟ إِنِّي لَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ فِي الْيَوْمِ أَوْ قَالَ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ 10210 أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ الْوَلِيدَ أَبَا الْمُغِيرَةِ أَوِ الْمُغِيرَةَ أَبَا الْوَلِيدِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ نَحْوَهُ [170] خَالَفَهُ عَامَّةُ أَصْحَابِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ

Translation

✧ I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am a man with a sharp tongue, and most of that is directed at my family.” He said, “Where are you with regard to seeking forgiveness? Indeed I seek Allah’s forgiveness a hundred times in a day” – or he said, “in a day and night” – “[10210] Muhammad b. Bashshar informed us; Muhammad narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us; he said: I heard Abu Ishaq say: I heard al-Walid Abu al-Mughirah – or al-Mughirah Abu al-Walid – narrating from Hudhayfah something similar to it. [170] The majority of Abu Ishaq’s companions differed from him.”
