أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حِبَّانُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ قَالَ

أَقْبَلْتُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبٌ لِي فَجَعَلْنَا نَعْرِضُ أَنْفُسَنَا عَلَى أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يَقْبَلُنَا فَأَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَتَى بِنَا أَهْلَهُ فَإِذَا ثَلَاثَةُ أَعْنُزٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «احْتَلِبُوا هَذَا اللَّبَنَ بَيْنَنَا» فَكُنَّا نَحْتَلِبُهُ فَيَشْرَبُ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ نَصِيبَهُ وَنَرْفَعُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَصِيبَهُ فَيَجِئُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَيُسَلِّمُ تَسْلِيمًا لَا يُوقِظُ النَّائِمَ وَيُسْمِعُ الْيَقْظَانَ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْمَسْجِدَ فَيُصَلِّي ثُمَّ يَأْتِي شَرَابَهُ فَيَشْرَبُهُ

✧ I and a companion of mine came forward and offered ourselves to the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but no one accepted us. So we came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he brought us to his family. There were three goats. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Milk this milk among us." So we would milk it, and each person would drink his share, and we would set aside the share of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would come at night and give salutation in a way that did not wake the sleeping but was audible to the awake. Then he would go to the mosque and pray, then come to his drink and drink it.
