أَخْبَرَنِي عِمْرَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ يُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُثَنَّى أَبُو غِفَارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيُ عَنْ أَبِي جُرَيٍّ قَالَ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَجُلٍ وَالنَّاسُ حَوْلَهُ لَا يَصْدُرُونَ إِلَّا عَنْ قَوْلِهِ مَا قَالَ

مِنْ شَيْءٍ صَدَرُوا عَنْهُ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ لَا تَقُلْ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ فَإِنَّهَا تَحِيَّةُ الْمَيِّتِ وَلَكِنْ قُلِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ

✧ From something they had just finished. I said: "Who is this?" They said: "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." I said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah" three times. He said: "Do not say 'Peace be upon you,' for it is the greeting of the dead. Rather say: 'Peace be upon you.'"
