أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي السَّلِيلِ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ قَالَ

لَقِيتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ تَحِيَّةُ الْمَيِّتِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ» ثَلَاثًا أَيْ هَكَذَا فَقُلْ

Translation

✧ I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "'Peace be upon you' is the greeting of the dead. (Say) 'Peace be upon you' three times, meaning like this, so say it."
